Fat-ism in HK

I've been browsing blogs and things about HK fashion and what not and it's amazing how strolling down to Causeway Bay MTR a few days ago, I realised that 99% of the female population in Hong Kong are tiny. Size 0-tiny. As a born and raised Australian (of Asian decent), I’ve been accustomed to being surrounded by people of all shapes and sizes, in a society that generally celebrates and embraces curves.

An interesting read here further reiterates my point!

I know Asians are generally smaller-boned than our Caucasian counterparts, but I had no idea that naturally slim Asian girls strive to be even slimmer. Seriously, is a US4/AU8 really considered fat in Hong Kong? Really?

Finally home!

Hi all, I am finally home after my trip to Asia. Loved it and will definitely post updates ASAP :)

p.s. all the space I made in my wardrobe has been filled up with lovely new purchases :D

Emily Weiss x Kohl

Emily Weiss is amazingly good with the Kohl eye pencil. I want to learn how to do that!

Declutter progress

So, since my last post re my wardrobe rehab/ decluttering plan, here's the progress.

This photo was my view in my bedroom a few weeks ago. A HUGE pile of clothes, a box of shoes and accessories I’ve decided to get rid of as part of my wardrobe declutter. Overall, I think I did a good job. My sister went through the pile and picked out quite a few she’d like to keep.

Now, this is a part of my wardrobe (1 of 2 closets in my room), which looks ok I suppose.

All my coats and jackets to the left. Some dresses and tops that I frequently wear to the right. I probably will start sorting through the hangers later too.

I hope my trip to Asia in the next couple of days won't undo all the work I've done so far :)

Ragu Pasta & Wine Bar, Sydney Westfield

So, while I'm in full Sydney Westfield blog mode, I thought I'd follow the theme and continue with my visit to Ragu Pasta & Wine Bar. There is a huge windowed section near the left of the store, showcasing all the fresh pasta that is left to hang while it dries. The dried variety also follows in weaved baskets underneath this. There are lots of options on the menu.

The different pasta combinations alone are intimidating and I haven't even included the pizza, their other options and the wine list :)

Amatriciana Strozzapreti (fresh pasta) $15

This particular bowl of pasta was fresh and very satisfying. The twirls of the strozzapreti captured a lot of the sauce and made every mouthful saucy and tasty. Simple, hearty,

Once you go fresh, you really can't go back. This would convert ANYONE to fresh pasta :)

Would love to try some of their other dishes with a glass of wine next time.

Snag Stand and Sabbaba, Sydney Westfield

The Sydney Westfield's food court is dotted with many upper end restaurants as well as cheap and cheerful (comparatively) eats. I have been visiting this Westfield's when I'm in the city (which isn't often), given it's time permitting and my dining companions are up for it.

The Snag Stand came highly recommended by a few friends and I do crave a good old fashioned hot dog every now and then. While lining up, I noticed so many different options. Thankfully, my dining companion on this occasion was much more decisive compared to me.

Toulouse (Bangalow Pork) - Freshly grilled with sauteed onions,
rosemary mushrooms & truffle aioli (on a toasted crioche roll) $10.90
Side of beer batter chips with truffle aioli $4.90

The hot dog was amazing! But that amazing-ness stopped at my second mouthful. For those who are familiar with my eating habits, I'm not big on cream and butter. The truffle aioli and heavily buttered brioche made me sick in the stomach. I gave most of my half away to V. The chips on the other hand were good from start to finish. They were lightly dusted in sea salt. Because I could control the aioli on each chip, it didn't feel too creamy/ oily.

Another great place that I love eating at is Sabbaba (in Newtown and Bondi). The Westfield's shopfront is small but displays everything they offer at the other branches.

Falafels bowl - village salad, tabouli, red cabbage, pickles, chickpeas, tahini, pita bread $13.50

If I was having this by myself, I'd go for the pita pocket version. It's really healthy and quite filling too. The falafels were freshly fried and could give Jasmin and Jasmin 1 a run for their money!

Bundaberg Cafe Range sparkling drinks - Guava and peachee $3.50 each

Another recent discovery are these Bundaberg sparkling drinks. Really like the flavour.

Sydney Westfield's has so much to offer. I'm still making my way around the entire floors to sample a bit of everything.
